Notes
Benjamin Walby was baptised on 22nd January 1750 at Aston in Hertfordshire.
Benjamin was mentioned in the will of his father's cousin, William Walby, who died in 1764. Benjamin was left ten pounds, to be paid when he turned 21.
In 1776, Benjamin's father died. He left his home at Aston to Benjamin, on condition that Benjamin should continute to live there with his mother, or pay her an allowance if she chose to live separately from him.
Benjamin was married on 8th June 1888 to Martha Caborn. They married in the neighbouring parish of Benington but returned to Aston afterwards, having seven children baptised there between 1789 and 1798. Martha died in 1799.
Six years after Martha's death Benjamin married again, on 2nd April 1805 to a widow called Mary Freeman (formerly Flint), who was 23 years his junior. They went on to have another five children baptised at Aston between 1805 and 1812.
Benjamin died at the age of 66, being buried at Aston on 27th November 1817. His burial record describes him as a butcher. Mary survived him by just over two years. Following her death, Benjamin's son William had to obtain a grant of administration of Benjamin's estate, which again described him as a butcher.
