William Walby was baptised on 9th February 1745 at Aston in Hertfordshire. As a young man William went to live with his father's cousin, also called William Walby, who was a butcher in the town of Hatfield, a few miles south of Aston. Young William also became a butcher. When the older William died in 1764 he left property in Hatfield to young William. Property was also left to another relative, Martha Tasker. On 28th October 1765, William married Martha Tasker at Hatfield. They went on to have three children baptised at Hatfield between 1766 and 1769: Martha, William, and George. William died as a young man of 24 years old, being buried at Hatfield on 4th April 1770. Martha survived him by 25 years and continued to run the family business following his death.
